Anambra woman establishes a foundation to care for the elderly
Ezenwanyi Vera Ikokwu, a lady of charity from Anambra State, established the Heavenly old Charity Arena Foundation in Enugu with the goal of helping the old, the impoverished, and the weaker segments of Nigerian society.

Speaking at the foundation’s recent unveiling, which included state-of-the-art facilities, Ikokwu said the idea originated from her understanding of the value of charity, which was shaped by her upbringing in a Christian-socialist home. She also stated that the foundation’s mission is to support and advance the welfare of the elderly and the aged.
Ikokwu continued, “The foundation is made up of a Board of Trustees who are chosen to serve important roles in order to effectively carry out the foundation’s objective, which is to promote enhanced health and welfare sustainability for the underprivileged.”
She also announced an immediate N20 million donation to launch the foundation, adding that roughly N2 billion would be required to make the intended impact of giving vulnerable elderly Nigerians comprehensive care and fostering a supportive environment where they will feel appreciated, understood, and supported.
She stated, “My unwavering love and care for my late parents, Maurice and Maria of blessed memory, has taught me the value of charity.” The HECHARENA Foundation was established with the conviction that everyone deserving of charity should be treated with respect, decency, and compassion—especially in their hour of need—through a great deal of love and labor.
This is a truly historic event that ushers in a new era. As we approach this admirable endeavor, I am struck once again by the enormous influence that deeds of compassion and generosity can have on the lives of those who are struggling with hardships.
“I am humbly and with great pleasure introducing the Heavenly Elderly Charity Arena Foundation to you today. This occasion marks the achievement of our joint endeavors to become an organization committed to offering compassion and care. Founded in 2024, the HECHARENA Foundation is a nonprofit organization. In my humble capacity as President, I formed it and have legal recognition for it.
As a “beacon of hope for individuals facing health challenges, emotional distress or social isolation, hospital bill matters and educational needs among pupils and students,” she claimed that the initiative is backed by a deep-seated commitment to support and comfort elderly people in need and the impoverished.
She promised a comprehensive method of caregiving that takes into account the person’s physical, mental, and social needs. It includes offering company, helping with everyday duties, and arranging for medical attention.
She went on to say that she has put together a group of people who are devoted to making sure that every nice person gets the help and consideration they need.
She went on to claim that research shows that more than 50% of older people are vulnerable, abandoned, ignored, and uncared for, which contributes to high death rates. She emphasized that HECHARENA attempts to address these concerns.
She exclaimed, “We are driven by a strong sense of purpose and a dedication to assisting others with love, empathy, and respect as we introduce the HECHARENA Foundation today. Our company is led by a group of empathetic people who have united behind the common goal of improving the lives of those who are suffering difficulties.
“We accept this role with compassion and dedication, knowing that providing care for others is both a privilege and a duty. Our organization collaborates with Nigerian hospitals, clinics, nutrition centers, and law companies, both public and private. We sincerely want to uphold all of the Foundation’s fundamental principles.
“We see a community where care is plentiful in the future. Everyone can easily access support and compassion is freely supplied. Our shared goal is to establish a network of assistance and compassion that reaches out to people who might otherwise feel forgotten or alone.
A Trustee and Executive Director of the Foundation, Prince Victor Uba Udeh-Ubaka, prayed to God Almighty and conveyed his sincere gratitude to everyone in his vote of thanks for the accomplishment of the HECHARENA Foundation’s sustainable aims.
